Profile:

Rory McDonald is a multidisciplinary designer based in Dublin, Ireland working between graphic design, Illustration, architectural design, and co-design to execute a wide range of projects.

Rory is a part II architectural graduate from the Dublin School of Architecture. He finished with first-class honours and his thesis was shortlisted for the Mont Kavanagh Scholarship. In 2022 he completed an MA in Communication Design at NCAD.

​

Alongside his academic work, he has pursued a broad spectrum of both conventional and unconventional experiences in the world of art and
design that has left him with a passion for hands-on, do-it-yourself-based design and an appetite for collaboration and open participation.

​

Rory has been involved in an alternative education platform 'EASA' (European Architecture Students Assembly) since 2016, collaborating in design, theory, and construction workshops in Denmark, Finland, and Croatia, Switzerland, Russia, Estonia, and Ukraine.
 

As an architectural designer, Rory has worked for architecture studios in Berlin & Dublin; working on projects ranging from large-scale competitions, down to small domestic projects.
 

As an illustrator, Rory has experience painting murals for over 10 years, and his work has featured in multiple publications and group exhibitions.


He has been involved in multiple architecture exhibitions in Ireland, and
in 2018 he was awarded a fellowship at the Venice Biennale, participating in the Irish Pavilion ‘Free-market’.
